about Kelly Kolkmeyer, LCSW
Hi, I'm Kelly! I have lived in California for three years. I enjoy crocheting, knitting, puzzles, and cooking.
I've been in practice for 7 years. I have special training in working with children ages 0-5 and in providing parenting support.
When working with children, it's important to me to include their support system (parents, grandparents, caregivers) in the process in a way that is therapeutic for all. I believe that caregivers are the biggest agents of change for a child and I want everyone to feel supported in the process. Work with kiddos can sometimes feel slow at first but I strive to build a strong rapport and sense of safety for children to share big emotions. I use a lot of toys, games, and strategies to help children build skills and process feelings.
I believe that a healthy bond between children and their caregivers is one of the most important things. Children can be affected by their environment and experiences and often have difficulty conveying their feelings to adults in a way that we can easily understand. My work centers on exploring underlying issues that may contribute to behaviors and working with the family unit to empower caregivers to support their child.
I have had most success in treating trauma disorders and parenting difficulties. I help parents interpret and make sense of their children's maladaptive behaviors, and teach them how to respond to and support their children.

What clients have to say about working with me
Parents have said that I provide an opportunity for them to share challenges they are facing with their children without fear of judgment. Clients have also said that I am able to provide them a safe space to process difficulty experiences and emotions at their own pace.
