Dr. Guerra and his wife Patricia were married for 44 years. For the entirety of their marriage they remained loyal and loving to each other and the mental health practice they ran together. Sadly, when sickness befell upon them- they passed away within a month of each other.
They built Associated Therapists, Inc. and ran the company for over forty years. Their zeal and passion for the mental health field, along with the family atmosphere they created, is responsible for the success of the company and its standing in the community to this day. Always dedicated to patient care, they taught all employees to go "above and beyond" with professional service and to provide it at a level seldom seen in the field. Their infinite kindness and core of basic humanity was easily and regularly communicated to all who had the good fortune to have contact with them. Dr. Guerra and Patricia truly believed that all patients should have access to mental health services regardless of socioeconomic status. This was a core belief shared by both husband and wife and one they regularly bestowed upon those in need. They shared the common goal of bettering and empowering the community they cherished. They both had outstanding reputations within the greater psychological and psychiatric communities and will be sorely missed by all.
Dr. Guerra, was the Director of Associated Therapists, Inc., earned his B.A. from Tulane University, his M.A. from the University of Tennessee and his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska in 1970. He was licensed in California as a Psychologist in 1971.
In practice in the Huntington Beach and Long Beach areas since 1971, Dr. Guerra developed a strong reputation in Family Therapy, Attention Deficit Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, Substance Abuse and Adolescent treatment.
Dr. Guerra was of Cuban decent, spoke Spanish, was happily married and was the father of two boys. His hobbies included sport fishing, bike riding, photography and computers. He was directive, and relaxed and friendly with his clients. He believed that giving information and teaching was an important part of his responsibilities.
His wife Patricia was born in the state of Ohio and spent a significant portion of her upbringing in a children’s orphanage. As an adult, she earned her certification as a Registered Nurse at the Los Angeles County Hospital School of Nursing and later went on to complete her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at CA State University, Long Beach. Her hobbies included hiking, reading, bike riding, cooking and she was active in the local Sierra Club learning wilderness survival training. She spent her professional life helping others as a psychiatric nurse. Prior to a debilitating stroke in 2012, she was the head office manager of Associated Therapist, Inc. working tirelessly to build and maintain the organization it has become. She birthed and raised her two sons, Michael and David.
Dr. Julio Guerra and Patricia Taylor-Guerra will forever be in our memories and will always be loved in our hearts. Their presence will be greatly missed but their legacy will continue to live on and inspire others.
